What Would Jack Mestrovich Do?

He'd carry his Company Commander through a hail of machine gun and mortar fire, being wounded in the process, go AWOL from the field hospital, rejoin his unit, go on a reconnaissance in force, take charge of the company after all of the officers were wounded or killed, hold the line to allow your men to reach friendly lines, sacrificing your life in the process.
